MONTGOMERY – On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, agents with the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) Law Enforcement Services Division and K-9 Division assisted the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in locating and apprehending a fugitive wanted by authorities from Arizona.
Deon Vaughns was taken into custody without incident near the intersection of U.S. Highway 143 and Marion Spillway Road in Elmore County, Alabama.
Vaughns was wanted on an outstanding aggravated assault warrant issued in Mesa, Arizona. Through the coordinated efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service and ADOC law enforcement personnel, authorities were able to locate and safely arrest Vaughns.
Following his arrest, Vaughns was transported to the Elmore County Detention Facility, where he is being held pending extradition to Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona.
