MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) began transitioning its food services to Aramark Correctional Services in December 2025. Now that the transition is complete, ADOC and Aramark are taking steps toward implementing more of its innovative programming.
Aramark Micro Markets are specially installed food service kiosks for ADOC staff that support employee wellness and retention. The first two have been opened at St. Clair and Bibb Correctional Facilities. The Micro Markets program will roll out to other facilities over the next six months.
Aramark’s award-winning IN2WORK program is designed to reduce recidivism by equipping incarcerated individuals with culinary, retail, and supply chain skills. The Alabama initiative includes 28 internships and 28 scholarships, supported by Aramark’s Workforce Navigator, which connects graduates to employment opportunities nationwide. By investing in education and workforce readiness, Aramark helps clients strengthen communities while addressing critical labor needs.
Other programs include iCare, a platform that allows visitors to order packages or restaurant-style meals, and Fresh Favorites, a retail experience that gives inmates the chance to purchase special meals using their trust fund. These programs are in development.
