MONTGOMERY, Ala. – On Friday, August 29, 2025, Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) arrested Ventress Correctional Officer Veronica Smith following an investigation into the introduction of contraband into the facilities.
ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division Narcotics Agents and K-9 personnel, assisted by Barbour County’s Special Response Team executed an arrest and residential search warrant in Clayton, Ala. The search resulted in the seizure of case-related documents and electronics. Smith was arrested for Use of Official Position or Office for Personal Gain (35-25-5)(a) and was transported to the Barbour County Jail without incident.
Smith has been placed on mandatory leave pending dismissal. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending.
