Alabama Department of Corrections Recaptures Escaped Inmate

FLORENCE, Ala. – At approximately 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, escaped state inmate Xavier Lamont Armstead, 26, was recaptured by U.S. Marshals and ADOC agents at a Florence residence without incident. Armstead was assigned to a work-release program when he left a job site in Tuscumbia on January 20. Armstead had a parole date set for February 2022.

Authorities took into custody 23-year-old Kayla Jean Fryer of Florence who was with Armstead at the time of his arrest. Fryer will be charged with hindering the apprehension of an escapee.

Armstead is serving a 15-year sentence for multiple third-degree burglary convictions out of Colbert County and a 19-month sentence for a third-degree burglary conviction out of Limestone County. He now faces multiple charges to include an escape charge.
