The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) remains committed to ongoing modification projects at Holman Correctional Facility (Holman). As previously outlined, 100% of the Holman inmates who needed to be moved from general and restrictive housing populations have been relocated to other facilities within the correctional system, and the facility’s death row population will not be moved from the main facility to the RHU until all necessary RHU modifications are completed.
All third-party contractors engaged by ADOC to complete facility modifications remain required to adhere to the same biosecurity protocols as ADOC staff prior to entering Holman. Ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of our inmates, staff, and the public remains the ADOC’s top priority.
Due to potential contractor staffing absences in relation to COVID-19, as well as ADOC’s preventative mandate stipulating that only mission-critical contractors will be allowed on its premises to help mitigate the spread of the virus in our facilities, our progress completing the remaining necessary modifications may temporarily or sporadically be slowed. As such, moving forward the ADOC only will post updates regarding the final stages of the Holman decommissioning process when new information becomes available.
