The Childersburg Community Complex is composed of two separate facilities, each with a separate mandate.
Childersburg Community Work Center is a community works oriented facility with a capacity for 378 inmates classified as minimum-out custody. The inmates providing community service are assigned to individual community squads and the squads are assigned to various state and local governmental agencies. The agencies accept responsibility for supervising the assigned squad and transporting them to and from the Center. The agencies provide payment back to the state for the utilization of the inmate labor, with the inmates assigned to these squads receiving payment for each day of work.
The Work Center has programs for Adult Basic Education, a Substance Abuse Program, along with Religous Volunteer Programs for inmates that are not assigned off site Jobs.The Facility is able to provide 12 hour medical coverage 7 days a week to treat any minor injuries or illness.
Childersburg Work Release Center became operational in July 1996 and has a capacity for 172 inmates. As a reintegrative program, the inmates work in free-world jobs during the day and return to the Center after work. The inmates have 40% of their gross salary deducted from their prevailing wages to help defray the cost of their incarceration. Inmates at the Work Release are also eligible for the pass/leave program after having been assigned and observed for a period of time. The total population for the combined facility is 540 inmates.
