ADOC MAKES ARRESTS AT VENTRESS AND ELMORE CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES

CORRECTIONAL OFFICER ARRESTED AT VENTRESS CORRECTIONAL FACILITY
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – On Thursday, April 10, 2025, agents with the Narcotics Division of the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) arrested a now former correctional officer at Ventress Correctional Facility following an investigation related to contraband introduction into the facility. James Thomas was transported to the Barbour County Jail and charged with Use of Position for Personal Gain.
Thomas immediately resigned from his position at the ADOC.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending.
ADOC MAKES TWO ARRESTS AT ELMORE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY FOLLOWING REPORT OF TRESPASSING
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — On Friday, April 11, 2025, ADOC K-9 was notified about trespassers at Elmore Correctional Facility attempting to promote contraband. A track was established with the assistance of the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office. They located and arrested suspects Colon Terrell Black and Brett Anthony Cockrell. They were transported to the Elmore County Jail and charged with Trespassing about Prisons, Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd, Trafficking Methamphetamine, Trafficking Marijuana, and Trafficking Synthetic.
Correctional officers located six packages of contraband that included approximately 1,580 grams of marijuana, 735 grams of methamphetamine, 134 grams of synthetic Cathinone, 12 grams of pills, 84 ml of codeine, 33 cell phones, assorted tobacco products, and cell phone accessories.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending.
